Quick Takes: Cowgirl Edition
1.) The past week every single spare moment has been devoted to getting things ready for Ariel's birthday party tomorrow, the Birthday-Party-With-A-Cowgirl-Theme-Just-So-I-Can-Rent-A-Pony-And-Exploit-Those-Awesome-Pink-Boots-She-Got-For-Christmas.
I'm down to the easy things on my to-do list, like downloading a playlist of Dixie Chicks songs and Cottoneye Joe, obsessively checking the weather forecast, taping cutesy labels onto bottles of root beer, and secretly wishing I could be done with it all.
2.) Birthday parties. Omg. I have such a love-hate relationship with them. I love to plan them and get all theme-y and stuff, but the actual execution really stresses me oooouuuuuut!
3.) I'm really pretty happy to have an excuse to add some Shania Twain to my iPod, though. Man! I Feel Like a Woman! has been missing from my life for too long, and just because I don't actually really like country music. Ridiculous reasoning!
4.) Wow, I've been stuck at this fourth Quick Take for like ten minutes, trying to think of something to say that isn't related to the birthday party. Yeah...that's my whole brain capacity right now, apparently. Did I mention there will be a pony? PONY! And Ariel doesn't know, so assuming the pony-rental-lady doesn't get sick of me calling to confirm that she will be there with the POOOOOOOOONY at the right time, a real-live pony is going to show up and surprise the absolute heck out of her.
5.) And between you and me, Ariel could stand for a little bit of the heck forced out of her system these days. Yesterday she woke up in an awful mood (she had to put on pants! her hairbow wasn't at the magical, non-existent perfect angle! Nessie said hi to her, of all atrocities!) and came down to breakfast informing everyone that she was grumpy and couldn't love ANYONE.
6.) I sympathize, particularly during these cranky last two months of pregnancy and all, but I'm reasonably sure that I've never voiced that thought. In her hearing, anyway.
7.) Now then, I'm off to bake some cowgirl cupcakes, cajole my husband to drive an hour away to a friend's barn to borrow some hay bales, and debate exhaustively the inappropriateness of including Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy on the playlist for a four year old's party.

Hoping that the pony helps Ariel find love for people again! I'm pretty sure that I was thinking some of those same types of thoughts after too much traffic and then trying to get groceries while other people had the audacity to stop and browse in the aisle. And don't get me started on the couple having a long conversation parked in the middle of a walkway!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the part will be fantastic. I feel like I'm spitting in the wind, but I'll say it anyway. Don't wear yourself out too much!
Sounds like it's going to be an adorably fun time. Did you say Pony?! ...you'll have to post pics so I can steal.. I mean be inspired... when trying to come up with Birthday party ideas ;)
